Mexican Hat, UT is named after the rock formation pictured above. The formation is northeast of Mexican Hat city limits. The curiously sombrero shaped rock is 60 feet tall and 12 feet wide. Mexican Hat is a great city to use as a home base to explore southeast Utah. Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods, and Natural Bridges National Monument are just a few of the historic sites that can be explored in the area.

Indian Stick Game
Native Americans have been playing the "stick game" as far back as history can be traced. Too complicated to be explained in such a small space. Let us say much money and many possessions changed hands when the game was over. This authentic mural was completed by artist Mavis Wilson in September 1990.
I took this photo and quickly got out of there as I didn't want to lose Black Betty.

Arches National Park: 2011
Simply stated, You must visit Southeastern Utah. Cancel your reservation for Disneyland. Rethink your plans to that posh water park in the over crowded tourist trap in (insert any U.S. State here). Southeastern Utah has 2 National Parks, several nature-based national monuments, miles and miles of National Forest land, world-class mountain bike trails, and rafting down the Colorado River. There are countless things to do and see and all of the activities involve adventure and being outside.
These photos were taken in Arches National Park September 2011. Check out a previous post from 12/21/2009 titled "Arches National Park". On that post you will see photos of Delicate Arch, The Windows, and Balanced Rock.
