Pike's Peak & Cog Railway

Pike's Peak is a mountain in the front range of the Rocky Mountains west of Colorado Springs. It's elevation is 14115 feet and is named after Zebulon Pike who explored the area in the early 1800's. The Peak is a designated national landmark.

The first 3 photos of this post were taken on the way the mountain using the Manitou and Pike's Peak Cog Railway.

The remainder of the photos were taken on top of the Pike's Peak.

The Manitou and Pike's Peak Cog Railway is based in Manitou Springs, CO. It's the highest cog railway in North America by a considerable margin.

The day that we reached the top there was a foot that was just finishing. They began the 14 mile race in Manitou Springs. The race was all up hill...scratch that...all up mountain!

The song "America the Beautiful" was written by Katharine Lee Bates. She was inspired to write the song after she climbed Pike's Peak.

Kootenai Falls

Kootenia Falls in located just West of Libby, MT on Hwy 2.

Kootenai isn't impressive because of one vertical drop. It's impressive because it has countless tiers of falling water over a half mile span.

There are several path/trails leading to the roaring river allowing you to get as close to the falls as you want.

Suspension Bridge...Afraid of heights? Afraid of walking bridges that bounce and sway with the wind that crosses roaring whitewater? Don't walk across this bridge!

Below, photo taken from middle of bridge.

4th Annual Training Wheels Not Included Bike Ride

Seven bicyclists braved the humidity and 90 plus degree heat on August 4th to ride the 4th Annual Training Wheels Not Included Bike Ride. Because of the heat the group decided to do a quick 13.1 mile loop affectionately called The Sissy/Sassy Cow Loop before retreating into the air conditioned house. Congratulations to John, Kate, Jamie, Liz, Lee, Robin, and Shannon!
Robin and Lee pedaling like champions!
Kate and Shannon pedaling it like they stole it!
